Greetings to friends, family, and those who like to bake...
We all get the urge to start something new or change something to better ourselves when the new year comes around. During the Christmas holidays, I was given a few copies of the DVD "Julie and Julia". I had read the book and thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
Now, although it might seem like it, I'm not copying Julie Powell, per say, but I really was intrigued by the concept of writing about cooking projects. It is something I've been doing lately anyways. People seem to know me well when it comes to gift giving and I also received a cooking journal published by Paula Deen--my idol! I've been writing in it for about two years now. I love sharing cooking stories with my mom, reading my Aunt Lisa's cooking updates on Facebook, and sharing my own adventures in baking with my friends and family. And so..I thought..cooking blog? Why not?!
So...here's a list of things my blog will be about:
1) Recipes, of course. And lots of them!
2) My attempts to become a "foodie"
3) My opinions, thoughts, and explorations in baking
4) Cooking joys..and disasters
5) Many lessons learned from my mother
6) A place where my friends and family can share all of the above in regards to their own experiences in cooking
And here's a list of things my blog will NOT be:
1) A blog to impress all of you with my wit and charm
2) Just an opportunity to hear myself talk...I really do love talking and learning about cooking!
3) Grammatically correct.. I am a teacher but sometimes I'm not the best writer! And I'm not going to use "big words" to make myself sound sophisticated :) I am writing it as though I am talking to you in person.
4) Something Giada Di Laurentiis or Martha Stewart would write. I'm not perfect..and I believe cooking/baking is a constant voyage of learning. Yes, I will forget an ingredient sometimes and my souffle will likely fall. That's why I'm blogging!
Oh yeah…and if I mention Martha throughout my blog, I’m not referring to Martha White or Martha Stewart. I’m referring to Martha Nieder, my mom. She has never wanted to be compared to Martha Stewart because Martha Nieder doesn’t try to be perfect all of the time. But her cinnamon rolls are AWESOME!
So..enjoy. I will try to write once a week. I wrote a few to start with to possibly spark your interest?! And PLEASE respond, comment, share, etc. Not for my own gratification, but because I want to hear from you and have you share your stories and thoughts.

Way to go, Sarah! Food is my passion too. If I had my way, I'd have a big 'ol pretty cake sitting on my counter everyday to serve a piece to anyone who walked into my kitchen. My Mom used to say that my epitaph would read..."And she fed them all".
ReplyDeleteSarah,
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I'll enjoy following along. You are right--your Mom's cinnamon rolls are AWESOME! Also her pies, cakes, cookies--everything she cooks or bakes. Mary R
Proud of you, Sarah. Hope you have lots of fun with this. Mom
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading about it all. Hey, send me some good eats too!
ReplyDeleteI laughed, I laughed until I cried, I loved it! I felt like you were sitting next to me in my living room telling me stories. You know I am too fidgity to sit at a computer for very long, but before I knew it I had read your entire page. I can still taste your famous apple pie every time I see that picture! You better wait a while to put that recipe on here, I begged for it for almost a year! I look forward to more of your yummy recipes to come :)
